It is the 3rd Super Six game in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 and could be a case of life and death for the West Indies. Fans expected the two-time world champions to sail through in this tournament, but consecutive losses against Zimbabwe and the Netherlands have pushed them into a corner. A loss in this game can end their dreams of earning a ticket to the World Cup for the first time. The Scotts have never defeated the West Indies in the past, and they must play out of their skins to win this game.   

Scotland Preview     

Richie Berrington's side did well in the group stages. They won the first three games but succumbed to pressure against the Sri Lankans, losing by 82 runs. The Scottish skipper will feel let down by his batsmen in the last game, as they had restricted the Lankans to a small total. Their opponents will be under immense pressure in this game, and Berrington will look to exploit this opportunity.   

The side will need a strong start from Christopher McBride and George Munsey as they face a strong bowling attack. Berrington has been the most consistent batsman for the side, and he must add runs with Brandon McMullen and Thomas Mackintosh. Michael Leask is a good finisher, and the side will expect him to add quick runs down the order with Chris Greaves and Alasdair Evans.  

Their bowling attack will look to repeat the performance from the last game. Chris Sole and Brandon McMullen troubled the Lankans with the new ball, and a similar show from them will improve the side's chances. Chris Greaves has picked 10 wickets in the tournament, and he has an important role in the middle overs along with Mark Watt and Michael Leask. The side will fall back on its variety and need good spells from McBride, Jack Jarvis, and Evans.

West Indies Preview      

A lot is riding on for Shai Hope's team in this game. First, it was the loss against Zimbabwe, and their performance with the ball against the Netherlands was schoolboyish. They lost the game in the Super Over, failing to defend 374 runs on the board. Pundits term it as their worst-ever defeat for the side in ODIs. They haven't carried any points from the group stage and must win all their games by big margins. The West Indies skipper would like his team to approach this game with a positive mind.   

Brandon King and Johnson Charles have scored runs, and the side will expect an electrifying start from the pair. The middle order looks good, and they will need partnerships between Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope, and Samarah Brooks. They bat deep, and players like Jason Holder, Roston Chase, and Keemo Paul can hit the ball hard and must take the side to a commanding total.  

The bowlers must come out of their poor performance in the last game. Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph have a lot of experience, and they must put it to good use with early strikes. Keemo Paul, Roston Chase, and Akeal Hosein must do well in the middle overs, as this has been a problem area for the team. Kevin Sinclair has been added to the squad, and he will have an important role.

Both captains shall have this on their minds at the toss, and the side winning the toss would like to bat first and put up a big score on the board.  

PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS      

Harare will have clear skies on July 01. The wicket is flat, allowing batsmen to free their arms and score quick runs on a lightning-fast outfield. There is no margin for error for the bowlers, especially fast bowlers. The side batting first must have 320 runs or more to feel comfortable in this game.
