Border–Gavaskar Trophy 2025-25 Predictions

We are all set for the resumption of one of cricket's fiercest rivalries. The Indian cricket team will embark on a two-month tour of Australia for the upcoming edition of the Border–Gavaskar Trophy. The Border–Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be the 17th edition of the series, which started in 1996-1997. Between them and now, we have seen some of the most competitive matches in the history of Test Cricket in the last four decades. The 2000-01 and 2007-08 editions have become part of the cricket legend in both nations as they witnessed excellent competition between some of the biggest stars in the game.

The Border–Gavaskar Trophy has rightly earned its place as the second most prestigious cricket series after The Ashes and sees the most intense competition on the field. Pundits have a tough time sharing their cricket betting tips, as we have seen in the last two tours that the Indians undertook when they defied the odds and beat the mighty Aussies in their backyard. We expect fireworks from the field this season as the No. 1 and 2 sides battle for supremacy with an eye on the ICC World Test Championship 2023/25 points table.

It will be a prestige battle for the Australians as they have suffered back-to-back series defeats at home against the Indians. In the 2018-19 and 2020-21 editions, the Indians handed over 2-1 series defeats to the Australians. This is the only occasion for the Australian team losing back-to-back series losses against the same side at home in more than 100 years. At BettingTop10, we will bring you the betting tips and Border–Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 predictions for all five Test Matches as the series promises to be interesting.

History of Border Gavaskar Trophy

The Trophy is named after cricket legends Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar, the best batsmen of their day from Australia and India. While India and Australia had played bilateral series starting in 1948, Australia's 1996-97 Tour of India marked the beginning of this tournament. Since then, we have witnessed fierce rivalry between the two teams in this tournament. The Australians had near dominance over the Indians till the 1996-97 Tour of India, with only one series loss in India and no series losses on their home soil.

However, the start of the tournament ignited a fierce fight between the two teams. The tournament has seen several memorable matches, including India's thrilling win at Eden Gardens in 2001, which turned the face of Indian cricket and is considered one of the greatest ever played. We have also had controversies in this tournament, including the infamous Monkeygate incident in the 2007-08 series that almost resulted in India pulling out of the tournament. We have had several legendary performances from the best players in both camps, making it one of the most-watched Test series in the world.

Team Previews

Australia

It would be an understatement to say that Pat Cummins and his men will be under pressure in this series. They haven't held the Trophy since their 2-0 triumph against India at home in 2014-15. We can't recall any other bilateral trophy where the Australians have struggled for this long in the last half a century. In the last two editions at home, the Australians lost badly against India despite starting as favorites on cricket betting sites. Consistency will be key to the team's success, as they squandered away the lead in the last three editions and allowed the Indians to make a comeback.

The Indian team arrives in Australia with their backs against the wall after a home series whitewash against New Zealand. Pat Cummins and his men would aim to leverage this opportunity in this series. The Aussie skipper must inflict maximum damage with the ball along with senior pros Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc, who have done well against India. On the batting front, the side will expect good performances from Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steven Smith. They must battle against India's quality bowling attack, as the Indian bowlers troubled the team on the last two tours.

Squad: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc

India

The Indians would have hoped to hit the Australian shores with a series win against New Zealand. However, in one of the worst setbacks for Indian cricket, they lost 0-3 in the series, their worst performance on home soil in more than three decades. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's fate hanging by the thread due to their lack of form, the Indians aren't in the best frame of mind heading into this tour. The famed batting lineup has weak spots that the Australians will look to exploit, and they have already got their ex-cricketers to start playing the mind games with the Indians.

The Indians will look to draw inspiration from their last two tours, where they started as the underdogs and put up a strong counterattack. This tour will test the temperament of players like Rohit and Virat, who have faced much criticism in recent weeks. Along with Shubman Gill and Rishab Pant, they need to take on the Australian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravichandran Ashwin must work with the relatively less experienced bowling attack to trouble the Australians in their backyard and recover the lost glory for the team.

Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar.

Follow our Predictions and Win

We expect intense competition in the Border–Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, as both teams have much at stake. The Australians can't afford to lose another home series against India and shall aim to grab the Trophy that has eluded them for almost a decade. With a few players at the end of their careers, a home series win against India will deserve much celebration in the camp. For the Indians, this series will all be about restoring lost pride. They have hit one of the lowest points in the last few decades with the series whitewash at home. The place in the team is at stake for some of the biggest names in Indian cricket. We expect them to fight hard in this series. As always, an Australia-India Test Series is always a high-stakes battle, and we will help you bet and win our betting tips and predictions.
